About

John Martin is a doctoral student in Instructional Systems and Learning Technologies (ISLT) at Florida State University and serves in a faculty role within FSU's Department of Physics. With more than 20 years of experience in education, instructional leadership, and curriculum development, his professional work bridges K–12 STEM education, instructional design, human performance technology, and emerging learning technologies.

Martin earned his Master of Science in Instructional Systems and Learning Technologies from Florida State University, along with graduate certificates in Instructional Design, Human Performance Technology, and Online Learning. He also holds a Bachelor of Science in Secondary Science Education from the University of Central Florida.

Before transitioning to higher education, Martin served as a secondary science educator, department chair, and STEM instructional leader. He founded the Marine Environmental Robotics Studies (MERS) program, an interdisciplinary initiative integrating marine science, environmental studies, robotics, and authentic scientific inquiry. The program expanded educational opportunities for more than 200 students and contributed to broader school improvement efforts. In 2026, MERS students achieved a top-five statewide ranking on Florida's Biology End-of-Course assessment.

His work in educational innovation includes collaboration on VAAS, an AI-supported research assistance platform recognized as a winning project in the AWS AI Maker Challenge. His research interests encompass artificial intelligence in education, collaborative learning, learning analytics, instructional systems design, and the measurement of learning and performance.

At Florida State University, Martin continues to explore the intersection of learning sciences, emerging technologies, and STEM education, with particular interest in understanding how instructional environments support meaningful conceptual learning and collaborative knowledge construction.
